The whole market is going crazy with tablet pcs and slates but there is one company who promises a lot but has keptmicrosoft-slate-balmer us waiting! Again today at WorldWide Partner Conference 2010 (CEO) Steve Ballmer claimed that there will be a “flood of slates” with varying specifications within a year.

Ballmer also said that users would want to have rich clients and not just thin clients to work with and thats what Microsoft will offer through its slates. “They’ll come with keyboards, they’ll come without keyboards. They’ll be dockable. There’ll be many form factors, many price points, many sizes but they will run Windows 7. They will run Windows 7 applications. They will run Office,” he said.

Microsoft also demoed a 3M M2256PW touchscreen using Swype which is a software keyboard that allows the user to slide their finger from one key to another to create words. There is no news yet on whether Windows 7 will have this software.

Microsoft has had plenty of experience in the tablets market with its initial works dating back to 2002. Despite eight years of development, the Windows-based systems are yet to catch-up with Apple and other smaller competitors.

Microsoft also claimed that about  21 companies are working on Windows 7 tablet devices to increase its usability and its ability to provide “feature rich” functionality to the user.

No actual release dates or possible price points were released. For now we have to get into another waiting game with Microsoft!
