Sony has been in the forefront of 3D technology promoting it for gaming and TVs. Sony has been pushing hard for 3Dsony-3d technology in gaming, this was clear with the recent PS3 update that allowed users to play the stereoscopic 3D games. Sony now is looking at expanding the PS3’s 3D capabilities.

According to a reports Sony is looking to extent 3D support to Blu-Ray movies, photos, and even YouTube to the console. SCEE senior director Mick Hocking said that in september this year, Sony will launch another firmware upgrade which will suppord Blu-ray movies in 3D.

“So you’ll see 3D games in the next 12 months, you’ll see Blu-ray movies in 3D, and as soon as the broadcasts start through our PlayTV services, you’re going to watch 3D content”, he said.

YouTube is said to also get into 3D market. YouTube will be supporting 3D content over the next 12 months and you will be able to access that on your PlayStation 3. 3D pictures and 3D camcorder movies will also be supported on the PS3.

Sony futureproofing its consoles will work in PS3’s favor. Now you don’t have to spend an extra buck trying to buy that 3D Blu-Ray player or that 3D DVD player if you own a PS3.
