dell-aeroNot so smart is it? Dell has officially launched its first smartphone in the US, the Dell Aero running the outdated Android 1.5! The phone was initially announced back in March but has finally made it to the stores. It is being solf for $99 with a two-year contract with AT&T and for $299 without a contract.

The most surprising fact about the phone is that it runs the outdated operating system – the Android 1.5. This was the operating system version which was released back in April 2009 and this being used the phone simply makes it clear that the phone will have only a few if not limited sales. This also means that Dell took a very long time to produce Aero – more than an year. The market success of this phone cannot be judged considering the phone might never recieve any OS updates for being so out-of-date.

Apart from the outdated Android 1.5, the Aero has some decent features. A 3.5-inch display with a 640×360 resolution and a 5MP camera while it is powered by a 624 Mhz Marvell processor. It also comes with a 2GB microSD card which can be expanded up to 32 GB with other features such as WiFi and Bluetooth. The Aero does support Flash unlike the iPhones.

Dell reported that Aero is the lightest Android phone in the market and weights only 3.67 ounces. An outdated phone for a price of a latest phone might work against Dell.
