facebook-robbers-statusTalk about another kind of high-tech crime! If you plan to go to the beach and announce it on Facebook by updating your status, well you might want to add another update indicating that you have a 24-hour security system and a pitbull in your living home. New Hampshire’s WMUR Channel 9 News reported that three local men were taken into Police custody for burglarizing more than 18 homes in the Nashua area of New Hampshire and they did this by checking status updates on Facebook.

Based on the status updates on their victims’ Facebook profiles where they indicated that they would not be home, they decided on the house and burglarized it. Police said that they recovered about $200,000 worth of stolen property as a result of the investigation. Police were able to narrow down on the suspects after a victim reported a specific type of firework stolen. The police listened for the sound of the fireworks and apprehended the suspects!

The police had only one thing to say, “Be careful of what you post on these social networking sites.”
