google-chrome-logoGoogle today enabled the ability for Chrome web apps to run in the background. This is only step one for Google to enable seamless interaction of Chrome apps with your browser and your desktop. Google’s chrome web store offers hundreds of apps to choose from. The background applications will stop once a user exits chrome.

However Google is yet to make the background applications interactive. Google says having such background applications will speed up the browser by caching data before the user requires it. Google said that the background execution is available to applications and chrome extensions.

With the introduction of background applications, chrome steps closer to becoming the default multi-purpose application on computers. Google seems to be aiming at turning the browser into a make-shift operating system with letting users run applications and even complex programs which Google says will be the future.
