DMCA-copyrightOn July 26th the US Copyright’s Office made it legal for consumers to legally rip DVD’s and jailbreak into your smart phones including the iPhone. However today Apple said in a statement to Cult of Mac that legally jailbreaking the iPhone will void Apple’s warranty on the device.

Apple has been into tightly controlling its iPhone software and has had always blamed it as a necessary move to improve user experience. Some users however ‘Jailbreak’ their phones to install applications and games from outside of the official Apple App Store.

The statement from Apple to Cult of Mac said,

“Apple’s goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”

Apple might be warning customers not to jailbreak their phones in hopes of getting more out of it but speculation is that once a phone is broken into the iPhone is able to report that to Apple. We were unable to confirm this rumor.

Let this not intimidate you from jailbreaking into your phone, why not? You own it, don’t you?
