Ronald_McDonald_sittingReports were out yesterday that McDonald’s customer details were exposed following a database hack. The leak gave hackers access to customer information like email addresses and birth dates which were collected from website and promotional sign ups. McDonald’s said that customer social security numbers and credit card numbers were not compromised in the hack.

Interestingly the database also contained how many times a customer had bought a meal or a burger which was tracked using their credit card numbers. The database was managed by a third party marketing firm called Arc WorldWide which is a subsidiary of advertising company Leon Burnett. The company would use data from the database on improving McDonald’s marketing campaign and to increase sales in a area as needed.
