A day after the world's attention was gathered by the top web giants regarding SOPA and PIPA, today ARS reported that the filesharing site Megaupload.com has been taken down by the FBI as the Justice Department unsealed an indictment charging seven people associated with the site. The 72-page indictment charged the seven people which included Megaupload's founders Kim Dotcom and Mathias Ortman, with conspiracy.
There were four of them who were arrested and are in customer. They are Dotcom, Ortmann, Megaupload.com chief marketing officer Finn Batao, and developer Bram van der Kolk were arrested in New Zealand today, according to the FBI. FBI collaborated with the New Zealand authorities in carrying out these arrested.
The indictment charges that the "Mega conspiracy" has willfully distributed pirated movies before their theatrical release which led to the company earing about $175 million in illegal profits.
Right now, the site requests are timing out and there is no message as such. So is this what the government might be doing to calm down the sopa advocates so they will not force the government into passing the bill? Could be.
