CE150

CE150Today a new chip was developed that allowed high performance image processing that will enable smartphones to have a 16 megapixel camera! Renesas Electronics announced this new developement today which has been possible by reviewing circuit design which allows for significant performance increases. The new chip called CE150 is small enough to fit in a smartphone.

Renesas Electronics in collaboration with Nikkei said that the new chip will also offer faster processing speeds with continous shots of upto five times the current speed. Full HD video images will also be possible with the new chip. In an press statement, the firm said, “The CE150 makes it possible to achieve high-speed continuous image shooting, which is demanded in high-end cameras offering top picture quality. At the same time it features high-speed enhancements and a two-lane MIPI® CSI-2 high-speed output interface from the camera to the mobile phone application processor. In addition, advances in noise-reduction technology realise the industry-leading high-quality image processing by pairing the CE150 with a 16-megapixel CMOS image sensor.”

The company says that it will start large scale production in March this year. According to the company, the number of smartphone cameras with five megapixels is expected to rise to more than 400 million by the end of the year.
