ps3Looks like to beat the competition PS3 is fast dropping prices. Welcome news today was that at an event in Germany, Sony has decided to cut the price of its Playstation 3 console worldwide effective immediately. The new price of the PS3 is now $249 here in the US for the 160 GB hard drive version. The 320 GB PS3 now has a price of $299 here in the US. over in Europe the price of the PS3 has been cut to €249.99.

The US price cut announcement also revealed that Sony will sell a special limited edition of the PS3. The special edition will be priced at $299 and will include the 320 GB hard drive version along with a free copy of inFAMOUS 2 and a 30 day free pass to the Playstation Plus online service.

European gamers will be able to purchase a new and cheaper version of Sony’s PSP portable console for €99.99. The big difference between this version of the PSP (officially called the PSP E-1000) and previous version is its lack of a WiFi connection. The console will also have a black matte finish compared to the usual glossy matte black color for the normal PSP. There’s no word if the PSP E-1000 will be released here in the US. Of course Sony has already announced the successor to the PSP, the PS Vita, that will be released in Japan in late 2011 and in US and Europe in early 2012.
