solar-panel-whitehouseLooks like the US Government is going to add to its large bill with a new project, to install solar panels in the White House. The White House on Tuesday said that it would install solar panels on the Presidential residence to encourage Americans to embrace renewable energy.

This is the second time a President is attempting this following Jimmy Carter who had them installed in 1979. Later Ronald Reagan took them down. Steven Chu, the energy secretary said that two new solar panels would go up on the White House to show that the technology is reliable and available. In a statement Chu said, “This project reflects President Obama’s strong commitment to US leadership in solar energy and the jobs it will create here at home. Deploying solar energy technologies across the country will help America lead the global economy for years to come”.

This is the latest new green project after the first couple launched a garden on the lawn to persuade Americans to eat fresher and healtier food. The government pledged in January this year that it would aim at cutting down carbon emissions by 28 percent by 2020.

The Energy department will soon begin accepting competitive bids for the installation of the solar panels.
